Every time I threw away a prescription bottle I use to always think, "Surely there is something I could make out of those." One morning when I was drinking coffee and watching the birds eat from the bird feeder it dawned on me that I could make mini feeders. I even thought they'd be great Christmas ornaments. I made one and even crafted my own bird from sculpey clay. Tiny ornamenal birds are also easily found in craft sections.
- Empty prescription bottles
- Small birds from craft store or make them from sculpey clay
- Bird seed
- Glue gun
- Wire or string to use as hanger Directions
I carefully punched a hole in the bottom of the prescription bottle, inserted a wire, knotted the end and then put a layer of glue over the hole to prevent the wire from coming out. Simply gluing a wire to the top of the bottle would work just as well.
Take the empty prescription bottle and fill it with bird seed. Reverse the lid and screw it onto the bottle.
The top of the cap will now be inside the bottle and the bottom will be the base.
Glue bird(s) onto the feeder and glue loose seeds around the rim of the bottle to make it look like seeds are coming out of the bird feeder.
I made my birds out of sculpey clay but most craft stores have packages of birds that you can just glue in place.
I can think of a variety of ways that these birdfeeders could be used. Christmas ornaments, ornaments for gifts, sunshine gifts, or make and hang on a kitchen window.
Enjoy!
