blessed elements corn harvest pin

I wore this pin to dinner at a friends house last night. It was a nice accessory to make my blouse and looked festive for the fall season. This is a simple and fun pin to make from beads and raffia that will ressemble festive fall corn harvested and worn as an attractive pin Besides wearing it for a jewelry pin, you can also use it for the Thanksgiving table decoration. Pin each beaded creation to a folded napkin for your guest and they have a nice souvenir of the holiday feast to take home with them. My children use to love to be included in my plans for decorating for the holidays and this project is a fun way to involve your children in your table decorations.

    Supplies
  • Tan or light brown Raffia
  • 3 sided beads (orange, yellow and red)
  • Narrow Ribbon
  • Glue (Glue gun is faster for this project)
  • 1/2" or 3/4" pin jewelry backs

Cut a piece of raffia the size of 3 1/2 inches long by 2 1/2 inches wide.

Cut the raffia in 5 even strips but leave an inch at the top that is not cut. Your strips will be 2 1/2 inches long.

You will be putting the beads on the 1st, 2nd, and 5th strip. You can cut these into narrower strips so the beads can slide on easily.

Alternate your color of beads on each strip. Yellow, orange, red, ect. until you have strung beads on the strip (I strung 12beads on each). On the next start with the orange, red, yellow, ect. When stringing your beads remember to leave enough room at the bottome to tie a knot. Next on the 5th strip start with the red bead. This will make it look more like fall corn, which is what the beads are suppose to represent.

Tie a knot with the raffia at the end of each bead group.

Cut a ribbon of the length you choose and tie it around the top of the pin. Gather it tightly so it so the top will "fan out" Leave ends hanging free and at the length you think looks best.

Take another piece of ribbon and fold it in a bow and glue it in the center of the ribbon you just tied. Glue a pin on the back.
