The Thin Line Between Fear and Love

Defeating fear is the first step towards love

At first glance you would think this was a little girl with a bird. It is much more than that.

brin and the bird

It is a picture of a line of fear that both crossed over.
In essence, this is what ‘fear conquered’ looks like.

The bird is 12 years old and has never sat on anyone’s hand except for mine. His fear and mistrust kept him from trusting anyone else.

The little girl is 8 and she has always wanted to hold this bird but fear kept her from reaching out to pet it.
Finally she reached her hand out from the grasp of fear and ventured to pet the birds head.

Because both over came fear, love and friendship evolved. It took one of them to cross the line first.
It is odd what a thin line there is between the two and by defeating the one the other grows stronger.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

What fear could you conquer that would open the doorway to a friendship or love?

What a great story! I have a fear of the unknown, I’m always afraid that whatever I do won’t make me successful – like I’m not good enough. I’m working on overcoming that fear!

I had never thought about fear and love in this way. Thanks for your insight! I ♥ the look on your granddaughters face and also the look on your birds face!

What a beautiful comparison with the Scripture. But isn’t true that fear can be so controlling that sometimes it clouds our judgement. The fear of the unknown can be very damaging. Great post. Thanks for being part of the Christians Moms. The bird is so cute, too.

I taught my daughters that scripture “God did not give us a spirit of fear,” when they were very little. They have been quoting it faithfully ever since.

Interesting connection between the two. Yes, I would even add trust as the intermediate step. Fear- Trust – Love… my son is experiencing this as his first year of school gets closer. He is full of fear, but I know if he trusts us (his parents) and his teachers he will end up loving it!

What a great message that anyone can appreciate. Some great things in life come from overcoming boundaries.

Just goes to show we can overcome anything when we trust in God. One of my favorite passages! Great story.

    Oh how sweet :)

I love birds. I can’t really think of a fear I have to overcome…. at this moment.

Oh my goodness, good for her! How awesome! I have a huge fear of birds! I’m not sure when or if I’ll overcome that fear but I did overcome my fear of deep, open water. I’ve always loved boating but would never jump into the water with my friends. If it wasn’t a pool or the the beach I wouldn’t go in. Now I can jump off the back of the boat with a life vest of course ;) My next step goal…scuba diving!

I have the fear of trusting any man. The only man I have ever trusted was my mother’s father who passed away a little over a year ago. Every other man in my life has either lied to me or hurt me in some other way. I am at the point in my life where I am willing to, at least, try to allow myself to trust them again. I am very afraid of what could happen but, I know that if I can conquer this fear then I may be able to find love.

Goodness, I really don’t know. But I understand that love and fear cannot coexist. Perfect Love casts out all fear. This is a sweet picture and wonderful post!

Great post! I love that Bible verse too. I really love that picture, and how brave she was to finally reach out to the bird. Thank you for sharing, and for the reminding us on conquering our fear.

What a lovely post. I am trying to overcome my fear of failure and going for a few organized races this year, even an obstacle race where I am not likely to know anyone. My new motto is, “Feel the fear and go for it anyway!”

I have been writing a lot of posts about self-love and learning to be kinder to yourself. I know it’s a scary thing and it’s something people fear, but just letting go you might be amazed at how awesome you feel!

My mom lives in Fear of everything. It keeps her from doing so much. I really hope I have learned from this lesson.
