I’m a big fan of the author, Eldon Taylor, and have read many of his books. His recent one is Self-Hypnosis and Subliminal Technology. I found the book fascinating.

The book begins with the history of hypnosis and also debunks lots of myths that circulate about it. I in the past have deducted that anyone under hypnosis must be in a Zombie like state and will do the bidding of the hypnotist. Not so as no one under hypnosis will ever do anything he would not morally do if not hypnotized.
The fact is that you’re always in control—you can always end a hypnosis session whenever you choose simply by opening your eyes. I than began to understand hypnotism in a different light. You and I have no doubt seen those under hypnosis that has clucked like a chicken. Would they do that if not hypnotized and the answer is no. So why do they cluck like a chicken? The author answers that question in this manner:
“Let me provide an example: There are people who would really like to be funny, to be entertainers, to be the center of attention, but who are afraid of rejection. What if they fail? What if they aren’t funny? What if they have stage fright? You get the picture. This personality type provides the perfect subject for the stage hypnotist. For while these folks hide behind the safety net of the hypnotist that “makes” them do things, they’re able to perform in ways that they’ve always wanted to. Think about it this way: If the person volunteers to be a participant, isn’t he or she already predisposed to play the role?”
The book was easy to read and kept my attention. I found myself really gathering wonderful information through each chapter. An interesting fact I learned from the book was about the different stages of consciousness.
One stage is called Alpha consciousness. This level is one experienced in hypnosis. We are particularity prone to the acceptance of skillful suggestion in the alpha state.
An interesting fact is that average individual will enter alpha brain-wave levels within four minutes or less of being engaged by television.
My husband and I elected to not watch television about three years ago and I am now more convinced than ever that we made the right decision.
Another good decision I made was picking this book to read and it has broadened my perception and awareness of what I absorb through the power of suggestion. My husband and I enjoyed the CD that came with this book and found listening to it extremely relaxing.

I received a product to review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed in this post are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Seems a little like smoke and mirrors, yet I have been hypnotized and it really did feel good afterwards.
I’ve never been hypnotized before – maybe that is my problem. I hear that have “success” with dieters – I think I need to check into this – seriously check into this.
I’m one of the skeptics who doesn’t really think people can be hypnotized – I’ve never tried it myself and am a little scared to to be honest. I’m glad you liked the book though.
This book sounds so fascinating! I haven’t ever been hypnotized either, but my parents have and it was an interesting thing.
My mom quit smoking by being hypnotized, but she started again. LOL
That is really interesting information about stage hypnotists and funny what the mind is willing to believe. This book seems to be something I would enjoy reading.
This sounds really interesting. I need to check this out. I wonder if I could try self hypnosis and reduce my stress level. That would be wonderful!
I did self-hypnosis in high school because a counselor gave it to me to help with self-esteem! I am going to have to try to cut out the TV like you did…but that’s hard because I use it for background noise.
in highschool I was hypnotized but I am not sure if it really would work. I would love to do it to loose weight:)
Hypnosis is a way of quieting your mind so you can talk directly to your subconscious. Even just repeating a positive phrase over and over to yourself is a form of self-hypnosis.
