A few months ago my husband called me from his cell phone to say his car broke down and he was going to walk home. He was about 10 miles from the house. It was dark and he was wearing dark jeans and a black t-shirt. I asked him if he had a flashlight to carry with him so cars could see him so he didn’t get struck by one. He did but as it turned out the batteries were dead.
I was concerned for his safety. He made it home safely but I spent the whole time with my stomach in a knot from concern.
My stomach use to feel the same way when my two children were in high school and walked down the block to catch the bus at 5 A.M. It was dark and it made me sick at my stomach that they had to be out at that time of day.
I recently found out about a product that will solve all those stomach knot issues.

Safees are pedestrian reflectors that brightly reflect a car’s head lights when hit by oncoming headlights to alert the drivers that someone is in front of them and so they can slow down and not hit the pedestrian.

They are easy to attach and the proper way to wear them is at knee height. Knee or thigh level is best because that is where the oncoming traffic’s headlights will be directed so that is where a lone Safees will do most good. It is my understanding that European countries have used reflectors for a long time and all countries where reflectors are mandatory for school children have significantly lower pedestrian traffic accidents and mortality rates.
Another thing to love about this product is the quality in which they are made.
“Safees reflectors are CE certified. This means they have passed the European Union’s demands for quality. The Coreflect plant that manufactures Safees reflectors is Lloyds, ISO/TS16949 and ISO09001certified. Even better, the plant is environmentally sound and has the ISO14001 certificate. This means that all aspects of the production lives up to the very high EU standards for environmental consideration. In fact there is no plastic waste at all when manufacturing Safees: all material is used, either directly for Safees or for containers and buckets and similar equipment. Nothing is wasted, no harmful waste is produced and everything is used directly or recycled. And of course, the Safees themselves are 100% recyclable.”safees.com
My husband now carries a ‘manly’ one in his glove box in the car he drives in case he ever finds himself in the position of walking again. I carry a heart shaped one in mine.
Can’t you already start imagining what else you can use these reflectors for to keep someone you love safe?
Perfect for:
They have clip on ones so it can be attached to your back and additionally wear one with the spiral clip to dangle on the side facing the traffic.
- Dogs and Cats
If your dog or cat is out at night their visibility is increased.
- Horse Back Riding
Keep you and your horse safer while out in the evening or dawn
- Strollers
Lots of people walk in the evening pushing strollers in our area. Placing one on the stroller and the walker would help alert drivers to slow down and move over.
Safees are reasonably priced at $6.00 each and have assorted styles to choose from on their site.
I’d like to see schools sell these for safety reasons and they have wholesale prices available for schools and non-profit companies. Would this be a great idea for PTA groups to sponsor?
Visit their site and check out their blog while you are there. They have lots of safety tips and a few topics include:
HOW TO RIDE A BIKE IN TRAFFIC
HOW TO CROSS A STREET IN SAFETY.
To see how effective Safees are then watch this video and see how much visible a person is that are wearing them.
