The grandchildren are back in school and this year Mr. L is attending kindergarten. It is always bittersweet for the grand kids to go off to school. I’m happy for them and the new opportunities they will get but sad as I know they will have to deal with peer pressure and rude behavior from some kids. I always want my grand kids to know how very special they are and not to take to heart if they run into any one that name calls or tries to injure their self-esteem.
One thing I’m happy about is that all three children have been raised loving VeggieTales. Mr. L’s favorite books and shows are VeggieTales and reads the books at bedtime, watches the movies and loves retelling the stories and messages he learns from them.
The new VeggieTales movie we love is “The Penniless Princess”. It is such a heart warming story that teaches viewers that we have self-worth and are someone special no matter what others think or say.
Sometimes it is hard to stay focused on that when others are mean to us but this DVD reminds us to always remember to see ourselves how God sees us and not others may see us.
I thought the timing was perfect that it is being released on Christian and local retail shelves today and perfect to pick up to let the kids watch it as they journey back to school.
The VeggieTales characters participate in performing the classic story A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The story is enhanced with reminders of how God sees us all and loves us and cherishes us. The story revolves around Sara Crewe as she begins her education in a new boarding school as her father leaves her to go fight in the war. Sara wants for nothing as her father is faithful to provide her with lots of love, toys, clothing and anything she would need. The most important thing Sara’s dad gives her is the understanding of how much God loves her and teaches her that we are all alike in God’s eyes where no one is better or less than one another. Remembering the bible story of Joseph and how he found himself in a distressful situation, Sarah too has to face a loss that sends her into a different environment where she has to practice the verse: “Whatever is true, pure and lovely…practice these things.” – Phillippians 4:8
I know Mr. L loves the movie and I know that he too will be inspired by the adorable VeggieTales gang to always remember that he is very special and has true worth in this world.
