It is morning; the house is quiet except for the comfortable familiarities of the normal house noises. The kitchen fan has an unusual rotating purr and it adds a certain personality to our home. It keeps a regular rhythm that is not obtrusive or distracting; a constant reassuring affirmation that it is present and doing the job of circulating the cool air through out the house. It was given to me by someone who replaced it for a quieter one in their bedroom. For a kitchen fan it is perfect. The sound goes unnoticed by most but to me it is a noise of comfort. It has become the pulse for the house and it maintains well being and comfort for those that live and visit here. It untirelessly works and adds cadence to the welcoming of my grandchildren as they leap through the kitchen door for a visit to Grandma’s house. I’m sure it goes unnoticed by them but its sound is always present whether adding a rhythm during the popping of pop corn on our movie nights or as we gather in the kitchen to make cookies and meals. Constantly it accompanies each moment with a harmonic beat as we create memories together that will stay with them through their adult years. Consciously they may never notice the sound and identify it as apart of me, apart of this house, apart of their memories but as they grow older and have houses of their own then they may happen upon another fan with the same similarities and adopt it as their own and also enjoy the calmness, peace and happy memories of the by gone times it inspires.

“It untirelessly works and adds cadence to the welcoming of my grandchildren as they leap through the kitchen door for a visit to Grandma’s house” Kinda Like Grandma?
Now that you mention it…No wonder I like that fan so much.
I’ll never look at a ceiling fan the same way again
.
This is simply lovely. I hadn’t quite thought of our ceiling fans in that way, but I do like their reassuring steady whir, it does have a rather calming effect.
I have no doubt you are creating a bundle of wonderful, lasting memories for your children and grandchildren.
